This is one those situations where I wrote a lot, and then the internet crashed. Blast and Damn. Or pizda, as we like to say in this part of the world.
So, a quick summery for you: My friend Abby will be arriving in Ljubljana in about two hours and twenty minutes. Abby and I friends of old, having originally met somewhere around second grade. She’s teaching English in France this year, and we’ll be spending a week exploring Slovenia before heading off to Vienna for Christmas. I hope to post a lot this week, and show both you and Abby my temporary homeland at the same time.
Yes, fasten your seat belts, ladies and gentlemen! This week you’re going to SLOVENIA!
Among the highlights of your time here will be:
-Lake Bled. A beautiful lake up in the Julian Alps. So scenic and lovely that the former Yugoslav dictator, Tito, had a vacation house here.
-Piran. Once part of the Venetian empire, Piran feels like like nowhere else in the mostly Austrian-influenced Slovenia.
-Skocjan Caves. Wikipedia claims that “Škocjan Caves is, above all, a natural phenomenon of global significance, ranking side by side with the Grand Canyon, the Great Barrier Reef, the Galapagos Islands, Mount Everest, and others.” Hmm. We’ll see.
Start making your strudel everybody. Slovenia is calling.
